Itinerary
Day 1 Qeswachaka Bridge Tour - Full Day
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at around 4:30 a.m. and begin a scenic 3-hour drive to the remote province of Canas. Along the way, we will stop for breakfast before continuing through the town of Yanaoca, also we will visit an ancient, now inactive, small volcano .
After about an hour of travel, we will arrive at the district of Quehue (3,792 m / 12,441 ft), where the impressive Inca Bridge awaits us.
Once at the bridge, you’ll have the opportunity to walk across the bridge and experience the strength and resilience of one of the last surviving examples of Inca engineering. Spanning 30 meters (98 feet), the bridge is entirely made of hand-woven ropes crafted from q’oya (ichu grass), a native Andean feather grass. Every year, four local communities come together to harvest and braid the grass, dismantle the old bridge, and carefully construct a new one using only simple tools, traditional techniques, and remarkable teamwork.
Our guide will explain the rituals and traditions surrounding the bridge’s annual reconstruction, a cultural practice deeply connected to the Andean worldview
After visiting the bridge, we will begin our return journey along the picturesque Four Lagoons Route. Our first stop is the Mosoqllaqta Viewpoint, where you’ll enjoy spectacular views of Pampamarca and Ancascocha lagoons – tranquil waters surrounded by lush landscapes and Andean peaks.
We then continue to another scenic viewpoint overlooking Acopia and Pomacanchi lagoons. This beautiful lagoon system is rich in native flora and fauna, providing habitat for a variety of Andean birds and fish while offering a peaceful. peaceful immersion into authentic Andean nature and culture.
