Itinerary
Day 1 Machu Picchu Tour By Train – Full Day
For the Machu Picchu day tour, we will pick you up from your hotel around 4:00 am. Then, we will drive through the Sacred Valley heading to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where you will board the train to Aguas Calientes town, following the sacred Vilcanota River and passing by breathtaking landscapes and snowy peaks.
At your arrival at Aguas Calientes train station your local guide will pick you up and you will take the 30-minute short bus ride to arrive at the entrance of the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu.
Here you will have a guided tour of all the most important sites of the Machu Picchu Citadel: houses, temples, squares, and terraces, among others. It takes about two hours and half, followed by free time to explore the citadel on your own pace, take amazing photos and relax while you enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Our first choice is Circuit 2 whenever it is available, as it provides one of the most complete guided experiences at Machu Picchu. If Circuit 2 is sold out for your selected date and time, we will secure the best available alternative, usually Circuit 1 or Circuit 3.
After your visit, you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where you will have time for lunch on your own. Then, you will board the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, our transport will take you back to your hotel in Cusco, arriving around 8:00 pm. Depending on train schedule.
Optional: You can hike Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, which takes about 2 hours round trip, but it may vary depending on your pace and fitness level. The tickets need to be purchased well in advance.
