Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Lima – Transfer to the Hotel
Arrive at any time. Upon your arrival at Lima Airport, our representative will be waiting to welcome you, holding a sign with your name. You will then be transferred to your hotel.
No activities are scheduled for today, giving you time to relax and prepare for your Peru rainforest adventure.
Day 2 Lima City Tour – Colonial and Contemporary
At schedule time, we will pick you up from your hotel to begin the city tour of Lima.
We will visit the historic city center and explore the outstanding architectural landmarks surrounding the Main Square, including the Cathedral of Lima, Francisco Pizarro’s tomb, the catacombs of the San Francisco Monastery, the National Congress, and the Government Palace.
Afterward, we will continue to the modern districts of San Isidro and Miraflores, where we will enjoy beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean.
Day 3 Fly Cusco to Puerto Maldonado – (Tambopata reserve)
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to Lima Airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to our office in the city.
At the office, we recommend packing only the necessary items for the next few days, as your main luggage will remain safely stored in our secure deposit area. To make transportation easier and keep our boats and porter cargo light, we can provide a duffel bag if needed.
Afterward, we will transfer to the Tambopata River Port and begin a two-hour boat journey upriver to Finca Sachavacayoc. Along the way, there may be opportunities to observe birds, caimans, capybaras, and, if we are lucky, monkeys.
Following a short rest, we will head out for an introductory jungle walk to become familiar with the rainforest environment. After nightfall, we will continue with a night walk in search of elusive nocturnal creatures and fascinating insects, including the impressive bird-eating tarantula.
Day 4 Chuncho macaw clay lick – Sachavacayoc Lake.
We will depart early by boat along the Tambopata River to visit the spectacular Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, the largest in the world, where hundreds of macaws and parrots gather to feed on mineral-rich clay. Breakfast will be served on board, and along the way, you may spot capybaras, caimans, and, with luck, jaguars or tapirs.
After returning to the lodge for lunch and a short rest, hike through the rainforest to Lake Sachavacayoc, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Explore the lake by paddle canoe while observing hoatzins, monkeys, caimans, tapirs, and colorful macaws in their natural habitat.
Return to the lodge in the evening, with the option to join a night walk in search of the Amazon’s nocturnal wildlife.
Day 5 Fly to Cusco from the Jungle.
After breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Cusco. During the boat and road journey you will take in the last of the scenery and take some last pictures of the Amazon.
Upon arrival in Cusco, you will meet our representative and will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and acclimate to the altitude.
Day 6 Cusco City Tour – Sacsayhuaman & Nearby Ruins
Enjoy a free morning at your leisure in Cusco. Take the opportunity to explore at your own pace, strolling through streets lined with Inca walls, visiting the vibrant San Pedro Market, the charming neighborhood of San Blas, or one of the city’s fascinating museums.
In the afternoon, the City Tour begins with a guided visit through Cusco’s most important sites: the historic Cusco Cathedral, the ancient Inca temple Qorikancha and the nearby ruins surrounding the city, including the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuamán, the ceremonial center of Q’enqo, the military checkpoint Puka Pukara, and the water temple of Tambomachay. At the end of the tour, we return to your hotel.
Day 7 Sacred Valley + Maras Moray Tour – Aguas Calientes
Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel. The tour will start in Chinchero, a picturesque village in the sacred valley, where you will see its ancient walls and ruins, as well as you will enjoy the traditional handmade weaving demonstration of textiles by local women. The next place will be Moray, the fascinating Inca agricultural laboratory with its concentric circular terraces that created different microclimates.
We continue to the Maras Salt Mines, an impressive landscape of over 5,000 salt pools on the mountain slopes, used since pre-Inca times. At noon you will have a delicious buffet lunch at a Sacred Valley restaurant with typical Andean dishes.
Our last stop is Ollantaytambo, one of the most impressive fortresses of the Inca empire with its enormous stone walls, functional hydraulic system, and agricultural terraces.
In the late afternoon, you will board the train to Aguas Calientes Town. Upon your arrival, reception at the train station and overnight in a comfortable hotel.
Day 8 Machu Picchu - Cusco
Enjoy a guided tour of the Machu Picchu Inca Citadel, including the House of the Guardian, where you can admire the iconic panoramic views of the sanctuary, as well as the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Palace, the Sacred Plaza, and other important archaeological sites. The guided tour lasts approximately two hours and is followed by free time to explore the citadel at your own pace.
After your visit, take the bus down to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Then, board the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Cusco, arriving at approximately 8:00 p.m.
